Fine Arts Museum - Collections

From the XV century at today...

Eugène Boudin, Marine, huile sur toile, 1894 The journey through the history of art at the Fine Arts Museum begins in the 15th century, with a magnificent Rheinfelden altarpiece. It is followed by the classical centuries represented by Brueghel, Boucher and Teniers. The 19th century is the main focus of the collection, with, among others, the works of Boudin, Jongking, Géricault, Courbet and Bouguereau. The artists of Alsace are also very well represented, particularly Jean-Jacques Henner, who has a room devoted to him.
The permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museum occupy the whole of the first floor, whilst the second floor is home to contemporary creations – internationally known artists (Segui, Ming, Spoerri, Rotella) are invited here for temporary exhibitions, which alternate with those of local artists (Ansel, Bey, Kamouche, Recher, Zeller, etc.). The art library on the ground floor has a collection of over 800 engravings that may be borrowed.
