The oldest collections have been grouped by manufacturers and form the S.U.D. (textile research room) of the museum, which is a massive textile image bank. From the mid-18th century up to the contemporary period, over 6,000 volumes of sample books, called grands dormants, offer a surprising wealth of documentation.
In the 1960s, printing tools and machines were set up in the museum. The museum’s cultural project takes account of that fact, and for each period, the technical presentation is supplemented by designs, dyeing chemicals and, whenever possible, the textiles made.

The stored textile collections here are the stuff of dreams… and it is often believed that they contain sleeping treasures. But the textiles kept here are taken out regularly and put on display every year in one or two major exhibitions in the rooms of the museum and in the exhibition windows, and regularly sent on loan to other museums.
